LIT'S ALIVE!!!!!
Hello. El Cartino here. Things have been quiet on this blog for a while. I blame our former manager / HQ Co-ordinator bloke Nigel. We had to sack him. So, you’re left with Lexington and I, and now, at long long last, I’ve got something to say.
As I write it’s 11pm on Monday 11th October 2004. Remember the date. In ten years it will be the answer to a question of Never Mind The Buzzcocks, or summat. “On what date did Balustrade make their live debut as a duo?”
That’s right, kids. Balustrade are now a LIVE ACT. Coming to a stage near you. Maybe.
It has to be said that the live debut was made in erm, inauspicious surroundings: as part of the Porter’s (Bath pub) Open Mic Night.
Hosted by the one and only Ben Hill (Not the Ben Hill who gets chased round trees by nurses.), we played two sets. Technical difficulties (such as only having one guitar between us) meant that the first set was rather ramshackle, but the second set was… well… we didn’t disgrace ourselves. First up, we played a strange version of Walking which Lex sang alone, followed by Mellow Doubt (Fannies cover), and finished off with Mojave Streamline, which you’ll be able to hear on the forthcoming album.
For the more complete set later on, we opened with El Cartino’s Blues # 4, moved on to another new one – Dream The Dream (sung by Lex), then finished with a much better, two guitar, duet version of Walking. Which disturbed people as much as it amused.
Anyway, we’ll be back at the Porter in a couple of weeks… if you’re in the area come along and give us a wave. We need all the help we can get.
